Matheson Memorial Library Renovation
On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, Matheson Memorial Library Director (and fellow Rotarian) Chad Robinson gave the club a tour of the completed $2.2M renovation of the City's beloved library. Six new study rooms, two new meeting rooms, and a new classroom were added to the redesigned space, along with new lighting, HVAC, boilers, air purification system, and carpeting were all added to the library, along with a new tele-health room in partnership with the Open Arms Free Clinic. The work was also supported by the Walworth County Literacy Council, who plan to utilize the space for classroom and tutoring sessions.
The two-year project was fully funded using a one-time state grant called Flexible Facilities, which awarded 33 Wisconsin municipalities with funding to enhance their community spaces using remaining federal Covid funds through the US Dept. of the Treasury.
Chad shared that the library's Grand Re-Opening held on Saturday, June 6th had over 700 community members tour the new space. He thanked the Elkhorn Rotarians for attending as well to share more about our work in Elkhorn.

Kristin and Ward shared leads about a potential Habitat for Humanity Build Day this summer. The club is waiting on a Build Day that fits with our capabilities at the dual-house project in Whitewater.
Ted said the Elkhorn Rotary Booster Club Golf Outing signups are going well. The date is set for Friday, July 31, 2026. Please contact him if you are able to golf or sponsor a hole for the event, which funds our club's three scholarships for EAHS seniors.
Dawn Is In Taipei!
Safe travels to our own Dawn Fiedler (and husband Peter) who left after our Wednesday meeting last week for the 2026 Rotary International Convention in Taipei! So far, she has posted amazing photos on her Facebook page of the trip to up to the top of the 101 Building, Opening Ceremonies, and meetings with the Wisconsin contingent. Have fun and we can't wait to hear more upon your return, Dawn!
Rotary limits the terms of its leaders to one year for several key reasons.

Limiting terms also ensures equity and inclusivity, preventing power and responsibilities from becoming concentrated in a few individuals’ hands and allowing broader member participation.
Additionally, one-year terms foster accountability and dynamism, motivating leaders to work efficiently and focus on their goals within a limited timeframe.
This approach also helps prevent burnout, as leadership roles can be demanding, and shorter terms help maintain high levels of motivation and engagement.
