Karen, Sgt. at Arms, quizzed us on some Rotary and U.S. history from 1970.
We had new member induction, adding three new members to our group. Welcome to Jordan Reynolds, Jon Anzalone and Katherine Gaulke!
Tom O. talked about Stir It Up and passed out a financial statement and maps of the high school. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and we need volunteers to sign up for various shifts. Those sign-up sheets were passed around.
Our former District Governor was present to pass out several awards. We set 34 goals last year and met most of them. We had an excellent year with over 300 volunteer hours. Our club gave around $28,000 back to the community. A Rotary Citation award was presented to Sara Nichols. We were also the #1 club in our district for donations to the Rotary Foundation. We also got a Polio Plus award for $2,500 in contributions for polio eradication.
Dawn mentioned there was a Rotary Board meeting last night and anyone from the Club is welcome to attend these monthly meetings. October 24 will be Culver’s Rotary Day with proceeds going to Polio eradication. There was discussion on RibFest. This year Rotary worked 147 volunteer hours at this event. We are planning to work at this next year and are blocking a set of hours at the beer tent for Rotary. We will need 25 members to work.
Dan Wedige talked about Flea Market parking which is another big fundraiser but is requiring more volunteers to get the job done. We used to get by with fewer volunteers and shorter shifts. We have to decide soon if we are committed to do this next year and let them know. We will need 10-12 people for the first shift and 8 for the second shift and there are four Flea Markets. Dan will bring the dates for next year to the next meeting.
Dawn asked the club to support Open Arms Free Clinic by sponsoring a table at their Gala/Dinner on December 7. The cost is $1,250 for a table of 10 or $750 for four people to join an existing table. A show of hands indicated we may have more than ten people interested in attending. If that is the case, it was suggested we put the names in a hat and have a drawing to decide who will go. Discussion on whether attendees will chip in $50 or the club will pay the whole cost?
It is time for a new member orientation/party so we will do that next month. Date and place to be determined.
All the trees are planted and we are waiting for the Rotary Way sign to be installed.
Chris Clapper has posters for Oktoberfest to pass out and thanked Advia for being a sponsor of the event.
