The Rotary Club of Elkhorn's BIGGEST community program is back for another year to bring joy and warmth to area children. It's Coats for Kids! This year, the event will be held on Saturdays, October 10th and November 14th at Jackson Elementary School from 11:00am-2:00pm.
The committee is looking for helpers to make it happen! Moving inventory, registration, and shopping assistants are all needed. No youth volunteers please to retain confidentiality for our youngest community members. Please contact President Kristin Belongia at elkhornrotarypresident@gmail.com for more information.
WEEKLY MEETING RECAP:
FINAL Breakfast Chat with the Circle of Friends
On Wednesday, September 16, 2026, Circle of Friends owner Sherry Leka shared more information about the local non-profit resale shop and their services for the community. Sherry continues to ask for gently-used clothing donations to assist folks with job uniforms, special occasions, school clothes, and everyday wear; furniture is accepted on an as-needed basis. She the program is entirely run by volunteers and she is looking to retire; anyone available to make a difference through their program should stop by their shop at 630 East Court Street in Elkhorn to help keep their operation going.
OTHER NEWS:
This was the last breakfast meeting of the club. Low attendance for our guest speakers and lack of engagement with additional members were cited as the reasons.

Congratulations to Ward and Kris - they visited Alaska last week to see their new grandbaby!!!

EARLY MEMBERS: A PORTRAIT OF EARLY ROTARY PIONEERS
Rotarians’ early members were businessmen and professionals from diverse backgrounds, reflecting Paul Harris’ vision of a diverse club.
In addition to the four founders, pioneers included Harry Ruggles, a printer, who introduced singing to Rotary meetings, a tradition that continues today.
Albert White, a pianist, brought a musical touch to the gatherings.
William Jensen, a real estate agent, helped expand the club.
Dr. William R. Neff, the first physician to join the group, broadened Rotary’s professional reach.
Charles Newton, a lawyer like Harris, strengthened the club’s ethical dimension.
These men, and others who soon joined them, shared a common commitment to service and friendship.
Their professional diversity and dedication to the Rotary ideal laid the solid foundation upon which the worldwide organization was built.
