Our speaker was AJ Sanchez who spent his Junior year abroad as a Rotary exchange student in Sweden. He was there from July, 2018-July, 2019. He lived in Strangnas, which is about 40 minutes west of Stockholm. He had three host families, the first family he stayed six months, his third family had six other kids. In Sweden, kids are in high school three years, not four, and graduate at 18. Food at school lunches was different, very fresh and made daily right there, and represented many cultures, for example they had a wok day. There were about 4,000 kids in his high school and extracurriculars like sports were not part of school. AJ was part of Kulturskolan- the arts and sang in a choir.
He was able to travel extensively, and visited Norway and Denmark, went on a cruise to Finland where he experienced a sauna, and also traveled to Italy where he stopped in Napoli, Venice, Rome and Florence. He saw the northern lights many times while he was there. At his school, students are able to choose from 32 specialty programs to study what is of interest to them and prepare them for future careers.
Next week is Club Assembly and we will induct two new members, Nick and Kurt
