Program –Wisconsin Makers Inc.
Pete Spangler, a Rotarian from Whitewater, spoke to the Rotary Club about Wisconsin Makers Inc. a group in Whitewater that had their grand opening on February 25th. They work with 3D printers, arduinos, laser engravers and lots of other technologies and equipment. They have ongoing programs like Tech Thursdays every week (but not in the summer) where they have machine demonstrations and Make and Take Tuesdays where you make something to take home. They also go to events like the Mini Maker Faire at the Monona Terrace in Madison coming up on May 14 and the Milwaukee Maker Faire at the State Fair grounds on Sept. 23 & 24. They had an Iron Pour event last weekend to celebrate the uses of iron. On August 5 they will be at the Fort Atkinson High School for a program with teachers and kids. They do a Scratch Workshop for 4th-9th graders, a knife sharpening workshop before deer hunting, and in December will do a Tinkerers Workbench Workshop. They are going to a Robotics Competition in LaCrosse next weekend. They are willing to go to schools and libraries. Projects this year include making an infinity (magic) mirror, a harmonograph, woodcut art using a laser engraver and much more. You can become a member for $25/month and there are many member benefits.
