Rotary Program Summary 12/5/18:
Topic: Vocational Service for Rotarians
Presenter: Judy Slawney; Vocational Chairperson for the District
“Be the go to volunteer organization for your community” was the message Judy Slawney shared with Rotary members on December 5th. As we all know, vocational service in our community is one of the critical goals of Rotary. Rotarians accomplish this by:
-
Developing acquaintances so that we can serve together - This can be accomplished by inviting others to join us at our meetings and join in our conversations.
-
Recognizing and identifying each Rotarians’ occupation as an opportunity to serve in our society by talking about our professions, while guiding and encouraging others in their professional development - This can be accomplished by living by the Four Way Test, being familiar with the Rotarian Code of Conduct, empowering others to use their unique skills to address community needs, and mentoring young people
-
Applying the ideals of service in all aspects of one’s life by using our skills and expertise to serve our community and help young people achieve their goals -
This can be accomplished through our support to VIP Services, Elkhorn Fund, Hope Now, APFV, New Beginnings, the local Food Pantry, and our Scholarship Fund
-
Understanding and supporting international service to foster goodwill and peace through fellowship - This we demonstrated through our Fundraiser at Culvers where the funds were used to eradicate Polio, participation in the Fellowship exchange, attendance at the international convention, and participation in global grants
Judy Slawney encouraged us to partner with others in the community to increase visibility for our club. This will attract new members and strengthen our Rotarian service teams. Other suggestions included:
-
