Presentation:  John Murphy with the City of Elkhorn Electric Company
We are very lucky in Elkhorn to have it's own electric distribution for the city. There are only 82 municipalities in Wisconsin that have their own distribution center. Elkhorn does have a lower utility rates than most surrounding communities. We have two substations on Lincoln and Voss rd. It is nice to have two locations in case one goes down. One station can currently power the entire city.
Water rates are higher than other communities, main reason is where Elkhorn is located and the natural water quality. Elkhorn has to do more filtering and softening than most municipalities. A new water treatment facility is being built with a $1.8 million budget and should be running by end of August or early September. It is located on Cobb street.  Water rates will increase 33%-38% once the new plant is up and running. It is predicted that the current wells will last 15 years or so more before we'll #10, which is already drilled, will need to be utilized to feed the new water treatment faculty. This year they are also going to repaint and repair the two water towers in town, the cost for the 2 towers will be over  $500,000.
The commercial and industrial companies use about 70% of the total electricity usage.
Water quality is tested daily and regulated by the DNR.
There are two major developments that are currently on the works for Elkhorn.
Market street continuation from the middle school will most likely start next spring.
New city website will launch next month.
Sunset pool is scheduled to open June 2nd.
