Rotary Notes 10/11/17
Chris Clapper passed around the obituary for Tom Druschke, former Rotarian who passed away unexpectedly, and said flowers are being sent from our Rotary Club. Services are this Friday evening at Haase-Lockwood.
Rotarians are invited this Sunday, October 15, to tailgate at the home of Bob Handel.
Reminder to everyone to sell your tickets for Stir It Up and turn in the money to Deb or Chris.
Kathie brought up the fact that there are five Wednesdays in November. It was decided that on the 22nd which is the day before Thanksgiving, we will bring our own lunch and an item to donate to the Food Pantry and have our program. Cooks are off and not providing lunch that day. Then on November 29th there will be no meal, meeting or social event.
Julie spoke about St. John’s in the Virgin Islands that has been devastated by the hurricane. She has been in contact with the Rotary Club there, Shelter box and FEMA. They are in great need. We decided to take up a collection today to send to their Rotary Club from ours, and we collected $200.
The speaker was Dr. Patrick Peyer from George Williams College in Williams Bay which is part of Aurora University in Illinois. George Williams College is known as a great conference location and for Music by the Lake. They are a small, private, not-for-profit college with 300 students. They would like to increase a little, up to another 180 students. They have 137 acres on Geneva Lake and a 10:1 student to faculty ratio. Tuition cost is $24,260/year plus room and board. They offer many scholarships, including two full scholarships to Walworth County students every year. Most students receive between $9-12,000 in scholarships. They offer both Undergraduate and Graduate degrees in Environmental Studies, Nursing, Psychology and Social Work. Starting in the fall of 2018 they are adding a degree in Business. Like all colleges they offer student activities, including kayaking as well as academic services. They have newly renovated classrooms, high tech labs and a new library. They are getting a new chapel next year.
