Announcements and Updates:
HOST Families are needed for our foreign exchange student Carmen from Spain. We are eagerly looking for a placement for December - March and March - June. If you are interested, or you know of a potential family, please reach out to John Henderson.
International END POLIO Day - YOUR Assistance is needed Wednesday night. Our club will be raising funds by working at the Elkhorn Culver’s on the evening of Wednesday, October 23rd from 5:00 - 8:00. Members will be serving food and cleaning tables during this three hour span. If unable to give three hours of time, then please stop by and make a purchase to increase sales on Wednesday evening. 10% of sales from the three hour shift at Culvers will by donated to the club. This will go to the Rotary “End Polio” fundraiser. Every dollar raised will be matched 2 to 1 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Stir it Up - Sunday, November 3.
Tickets have been distributed. Please remember that Ticket money needs to be handed in at our meetings, not at the event. Please give money to Ted Johnson.
There will be 5 musical groups performing this year including: Badger Jazz Band, Faith Christian School Band, Whitewater Jazz Band - as well as the Elkhorn Area High School Jazz Band and Chorale group.
Volunteer sign up was started - confirmation of your volunteer assignment will be coming out in the next few weeks. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, so please sell your tickets and mark your calendar.
Raffle table items are needed for the event. Donations such as gift certificates, sports memorabilia, or gift basket items can be brought to next week’s meeting. Please no alcohol donations for this event.
Club Social and New Member Orientation Event:
New members and ALL members are encouraged to attend the event on the evening of October 30th. If interested, meet at the New Holiday Inn from 5:00 -6;00 for their open house and club social. Food will be available at the Holiday Inn. The New Members event will then be held at Bill Campbell’s house starting at 6:00 - with cocktails for those in attendance. Topics that will be covered include volunteer opportunities, fundraising, club history, membership roles, and future leadership opportunities in the club.
Upcoming events at the High School:
Mark your calendar for November 20, 2019 for the You’re Not Alone Screening Event which will be held at the Elkhorn High School at 6:30 in the auditorium. This documentary follows four young people from Wisconsin as they navigate mental health challenges. The program was a collaboration between USA Today Network - Wisconsin and Milwaukee PBS. It is in follow up to the Kids in Crisis series which has brought to light the rising suicide rates and gaps in mental health care in Wisconsin. The Elkhorn Rotary will be sponsoring two of the students featured in the movie - enabling them to attend the event.
The Elkhorn Area High School will also be sponsoring the Financial Reality Expo will be held on November 14th. Volunteers are needed to man a table to assist with the event - handing out information to students, assisting with the scenarios. This is a great learning opportunity for the EAHS students. Volunteers are asked to arrive for a 7:15 orientation. The event, with the high school students, will run from 8:00 - noon.
Rotary Club Assembly Summary 10/16/19
Our Wednesday program included and Assembly with a number of topics presented. Topics included updates for the Culver’s Fundraiser, Stir It Up, Club Social / New Member Orientation Event and the February’s Wine, Beer, and Food Festival. Dates for the February event are being finalized and new volunteers stepped forward to get a jump on planning prior to the holidays. The Club Christmas Party discussion was also held to determine dates and location. Friday, January 3, 2020 will be the date; with the Elkhorn Chamber of Commerce the location.
The 2019-2020 Rotary budget was reviewed by the membership. Ideas for additional fundraising events are always welcomed. After a brief discussion, the budget was approved.
