Volunteers Needed for State DECA Competition Feb. 24

Badger High School DECA Advisor Phil Huff reached out to the Walworth County Rotary clubs for assistance with DECA's upcoming State Career Development Conference on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 from 7:30am-1:00pm at the Grand Geneva. DECA is a career and technical high school student organization that teaches leadership, teamwork, networking and other skills needed for success in their future careers.

30 volunteers are still needed: The organizers are specifically looking for current or retired business/finance professionals, tourism and marketing advisors, and those in retail and restaurants to evaluate these students' critical thinking skills... BUT truly anyone is welcome to help! No prior experience or DECA background is necessary, and lunch will be provided.

WEEKLY MEETING RECAP:  Celebrating New Members &   A New Leader!

On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, the club inducted two new members, Charles Cornelssen and Tara Hummel, as well as officially announced the President for the 2026-27 Rotary year... Kristin Belongia!!!! Kristin will be joining Dawn (Our fearless 2026/27 District Governor) at the President-Elect Training Seminar (PETS) in Itasca, Illinois next month to get all the support needed to guide us through a successful year. Congratulations to all and thank you for your service to Rotary.

The pair said the newest generation is looking for future career development support, the flexibility to independently problem solve, leadership opportunities, group activities outside of work, flexible schedules, and transparent pay. She recommended businesses adopt a department rotation for interns (and maybe new hires) for greater understanding of company opportunities as well. The challenges of blending generational work styles and shared training were discussed as well.

This Week's Rotary Minute...

When Did Rotary Become Rotary International?

Rotary International, as we know it, has not always appeared on the Rotary’s letterhead.

In 1910, five years after the first Rotary club was founded in Chicago, the existing clubs, all located in the USA, came together to form the National Association of Rotary Clubs of the United States of America.

In August 1912, Rotary crossed the Atlantic with the Rotary Club of London‘s creation (UK).

Potential members of the London Club wondered why they had to join and pay dues to an association that consisted only of American clubs.

After the London and Winnipeg clubs’ establishment, the name of the Association became the International Association of Rotary Clubs.

Then, at the 1922 Rotary Convention in Los Angeles, representatives shortened the name to Rotary International.

They also introduced into Rotary’s Constitution the Purpose of Rotary, which remains one of our guiding principles.
