Karl Sorvick, Recreation Director for City of Elkhorn Parks and Recreation, joined this week’s Rotary Lunch. Karl presented plans for improvements to Babe Mann Park. The plan, which will be presented to the city for approval, includes six phases of improvements: paving the walking path, building a new pavilion, adding a playground, upgrading and adding more benches/picnic tables, adding shelters and/or a performance stage, adding a frisbee golf course etc.. The total costs for all phases is roughly $1.5 million. If the plans are approved, the goal is for Phase 1 to begin in 2020. Phase 1, which would cost roughly $350,000, includes adding stone to the walking path to prepare it for paving, building a new pavilion, and updating and adding more benches/picnic tables. The City of Elkhorn hopes to find sponsorships for the improvements proposed for Babe Mann Park, with potential naming rights available.
