Ann spoke about the Voluntary Public Access/Habitat Incentive Program.
The state leases private land for public access.
There are about 175 landowners in this program, covering 232,000 acres. Access to outdoor opportunities stimulate local economies. This fits into the Aldo Leopold notion that wildlife and land is held in a public trust. Everyone gets to enjoy access. This program is a scientific management program funded by hunters and fisherman. Landowners who participate in these programs are not liable to accidents. Economic impact of VPA is 2.8 million. DNR is looking for landowners to participate in expanding these programs.
