Program – Jeanne Hoffman, Clothing Outreach Center
Chris Clapper has Stir It Up tickets for all Rotary members to sell.
Ted Johnson has organized a football pool for this year. Cost is $20 and picks are done online like last year.
September 24 is the last Flea Market and Dan passed around a sign-up sheet for volunteers needed to park cars. All shifts were filled. Thank you!
Jeanne Hoffman spoke to the Rotary Club about Elkhorn’s Clothing Outreach Center. This is a storefront located in the strip mall between Frank’s Piggly Wiggly and the Chinese restaurant in Elkhorn that provides free clothing to low income people. Started by the Calvary Community Church, it is run by volunteers and is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 – 2:00 and on Saturdays from 10:00 – 1:00. To qualify, customers must provide a Forward health card or Quest card, have a voucher from the food pantry or a letter from a Pastor. They have given away over 16,000 items so far this year, so the need is great. They are allowed five items every six weeks per family member. They have shoes in addition to clothing and have two special drives- “Sock it to me” to collect new socks and “Undie 500” to collect new underwear. Jeanne offered to show any Rotary members the store and Karen offered to take things to the store if we bring them to a Rotary meeting on Wednesday.
